7. What do you feel was BEST about this workshop?

  • The information presented is so comprehensive and so timely. Very well paced. Good agenda. Like sharing info from others in same spot.
  • PowerPoint presentation
  • Recruitment Assessment tool worksheets.
  • The brainstorming between agencies
  • The case studies and group recruiting plan we worked on was most applicable to my current situation & gave me good ideas and a direction!
  • It just started me thinking about all the options
  • The interaction and brain storming between department. Also with so many out of California departments hearing different views on recruiting
  • Interaction with other departments
    Group interaction
  • Hands on Planning. Hearing new ideas even if they were something that could have easily been done
  • The team concept of working together to develop a strategy for recruiting
  • Hearing ideas from other departments
  • Listening to ideas & strategies of others. Simple/Realistic recruitment ideas/plans
  • The recruitment tool is a great way to specifically target the workshop. Also demonstrated the need to have a full commitment from your department in order to recruit women
  • Information on creating a job expo specific to my department instead of attending job fairs by other agencies
  • Good speaker, participants. Materials are well prepared so there isn't a necessity for too many notes
  • The group exercise
  • Networking, good info to build a recruiting program, different media to use

8. What do you feel would IMPROVE this workshop?

  • Closer to home
  • More speakers
  • I was thrilled with the no cost/low cost ideas- Any more you could add would be excellent
  • Maybe more samples of hand outs, posters, flyers
  • At this point, not much for first day
  • More ideas on how to attract women to our departments
  • More info on how to do the ideas you talk about
  • Size of class- maybe 5-10 people larger or more
  • More dynamic power point graphics. Check notebooks for materials prior to the start of the course
  • More info about the unique characteristics women bring to the Law enforcement firm
  • Instead of using past case studies, utilize case studies from within the class and create a recruiting plan for a Department in the class. Continue to utilize interactive groups

9. Additional comments?

  • A brainstorming session for overall recruiting
  • Good job!!
  • Maybe offer it at different locations (states) to help keep travel costs lower
  • I am excited to try out the strategies at our department

RECRUITING WOMEN TO POLICING EVALUATION - Day Two

June 2, 2000, Oakland, CA

1. Overall, I would rate this training (Circle One):

Excellent ( 3 ) Very Good ( 10 ) Good ( 3 ) Fair ( 0 ) Poor ( 0 )

2. Overall, I would rate the Selection Assessment Tool (Circle One):

Excellent ( 4 ) Very Good ( 9 ) Good ( 3 ) Fair ( 0 ) Poor ( 0 )

3. Overall, I would rate the Academy Assessment Tool (Circle One):

Excellent ( 3 ) Very Good ( 11 ) Good ( 2 ) Fair ( 3 ) Poor ( 0 )

4. What do you feel was BEST about this workshop?

  • Information presented was very organized and easy to follow. Very practical situations
  • Networking with other agencies
  • Just a new topic for me, I actually had very little experience in this area
  • Information presented was thorough and the opportunities to share with other agencies were ample
  • Location; will utilize all information presented
  • Group participation
  • Sharing of ideas with other departments
  • Networking. What other agencies are doing
  • The recruiting ideas & places to go to find females
  • Group scenarios and presentation
  • Ideas from other students. Forms
  • Still this bonding between agencies and the brainstorming
  • Interaction with other departments
  • The group work
  • Unfortunately, day 2 focused on retention which I do not have control over (i.e. academy format). However, I can share this with others who do. I got the most out of the case studies

5. What do you feel would IMPROVE this workshop?

  • Lower price. Offer at more locations around the country
  • Spend more time addressing solutions to particular problems facing departments that attended. You provided us with the tools when they have been completed and they can assist the department and how they can be utilized
  • List of attendees to contact on specific programs they are using as a resource if we want to incorporate a similar program I got more from the first day only because it applied to my situation more than day two's topics but I still have much I can pass on because of day two
  • Eliminate sexual harassment topic, focus on recruiting women
  • More solutions to problems such as: Physical agility etc.
  • More time to just talk about our own ways. I learned a lot from the other agencies sharing how they do things
  • Emphasize that standards won't be lowered in shooting/driving/physical training that will compromise officer survival
  • First day was very well done and informative. I felt day 2 was simply you read this book to us. Second day seemed to drag and not much information
  • More networking with the participating departments.

6. Do you feel better equipped to ensure your selection process will not screen women out?

Yes ( 12 ) No ( 0 ) Maybe ( 4 )

7. Do you feel better equipped to retain women in the Academy?

Yes ( 11 ) No ( 1 ) Maybe ( 5 )

8. Would you recommend day 2 of this workshop to your colleagues?

Yes ( 15 ) No ( 0 ) Maybe ( 0 )

9. Additional comments? (on back)

  • Thank you again for the invitation to participate on behalf of our department*
  • Great workshop- I have a lot of concrete ideas as well as a list of priorities and ``To Do's" for myself!
  • Good workshop. Good reference material
  • Good job, thank you
  • For me day 2 was not that interesting, not because of the subject matter, but because it was not my focus We do not have a problem retaining women through the academy. It is after the academy and within the first two years that we lose women. Emphasis should be on finding what is causing women to leave, and addressing solutions
