About the Course: Is there a brass ceiling for women in policing? If so, what are the reasons? What strategies can women in law enforcement use to position themselves for promotion? This workshop will answer these questions and more!!! Participants should come to this session with a vision of where they want to be in the profession. Chief Karin Montejo, a 26-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department, will guide you through the steps you can take to get there. The workshop will present research on characteristics of women in command staff positions as well as what you can do to move up the promotion ladder. Open to all women currently employed in law enforcement agencies.

About the Instructor, Chief Montejo
Chief Montejo is the Police Division Chief of the Administration and Technology Division of Miami-Dade PD and she is a 26-year veteran of the Department. Chief Montejo is a Ph.D. candidate in Global Leadership and is doing her thesis on Women in Leadership in Law Enforcement. Chief Montejo holds an MS in Public Administration and a BA in Criminal Justice. Chief Montejo has attended the Southern Police Institute Command Officers Development Course sponsored by the University of Lousville and the Center for Creative Leadership in Greensboro, North Carolina.

The course will be conducted at the Newport Beachside Resort, Sunny Isles Beach, Florida. The hotel is situated on the Atlantic Ocean with 450 feet of golden beach. The hotel is close to Miami International Airport.

If you have registered for the training, you must fill out our brief questionnaire: We customize all of our training to our audience so we need a little bit of information about you and your law enforcement agency to enable us to do this. Pricing: Register by August 31, 2004 to receive the Early Bird discount. Cost is $500 per participant for the two-day workshop if your registration is received between September 1, 2004 and October 1, 2004. Cost is $575 (registration and $75 late fee) if registration is received after October 1, 2004. Departments registering 3 or more participants receive a group discount of $100 off per participant.

Time and Place: The Women in Law Enforcement: Positioning Yourself for Promotion Workshop is from 9:00am to 5:00pm each day at the workshop
hotel. Registration and a continental breakfast 8:30am to 9:00am.
